Building Futures

Day of Remembrance is today. This past month during Domestic Violence Awareness Month, Building Futures has worked to raise awareness for survivors of Domestic Violence and share important resources for those in need. Join us and watch this video as a Day of Remembrance for those we have lost, as the event is held virtually this year.

Yes on W means sheltering people experiencing homelessness to reduce COVID-19 impacts.

We are all feeling the impact of shelter-in-place and COVID-19. Our unhoused neighbors are feeling it even more and need Yes on W to assure shelter.

More than 8,000 people experience homelessness in Alameda County each night, with 79% unsheltered homelessness on the street in tents or vehicles. Measure W will address Alameda County’s homeless crises, protecting our most vulnerable neighbors. This will reduce the impacts of COVID-19 and increase safety and health for everyone.

Myth: Only adult women are affected by intimate partner violence.

Fact: Men and boys of color can also experience sexual violence, stalking, and intimate partner violence. This violence can happen at any point in their life, childhood, teen years, or in adulthood.

Myth: There is no support for men experiencing intimate partner violence/domestic violence.

Fact: Building Futures runs men’s groups! If you are a man and facing intimate partner violence (emotional, physical, psychological, financial abuse) reach out to BF by email at mbanksbey@bfwc.org or phone 510-753-8398.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. 24/7/365: If you or anyone you know needs help, call our 24-hour Crisis Line: 1-866-A-WAY-OUT

Not just men of color. I once worked with a guy whose wife, who was smaller than him, beat him up regularly. His face was often a mess. It took us almost three years to convince him that it wasn't good for his kids to see/live with that regularly - or at all.

Yes on W means supporting your neighbors and helping them stay in their homes!

Yes on W creates opportunities for employment with job training supporting those who have lost their jobs to find a new match. A Yes on Measure W allows the county to teach people the tools they need for success!

At Building Futures, we know the impact of being vulnerable, and unhoused, especially during a pandemic, which is why we want our neighbors to have the security and safety of staying in their homes!
