October Is DVAM!

October Is DVAM!

October officially marks the beginning of Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM). DVAM was created to connect advocates, individuals and communities across the nation who are working to end violence. What is Domestic Violence? Domestic violence, also known as Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) is a pattern of coercive behaviors in any relationship that is used to gain or maintain power and control over an intimate partner. Building Futures provides a range of services for survivors of domestic violence. If you don’t feel safe, call us 24/7. Building Futures’ 24-hour domestic violence crisis line: 1-866-292-9688 or 1-866-A-WAY-OUT

Follow us all month long on Facebook and Instagram for prevention resources, information centered on building healthy relationships, statistics about domestic violence (DV) and more.

#PurpleThursday is October 15, 2026—National “Wear Purple” Day—observed on the third Thursday of October.

Purple nails, purple hair—it all counts! The color purple is a symbol of peace, courage, survival, honor, and dedication to ending domestic violence.

Nationwide, those who care will dress in purple to show support for survivors and signal their commitment to ending violence. Building Futures friends and frontline staff also participate each year.
